Client Testimonial

“The moment I signed up to work with Laura, I had taken a positive, concrete step towards reaching my career goals.

Too often, I used to find myself replaying unpleasant office interactions in my head or pondering sticky work situations without an unbiased, but experienced person to help me navigate them.

Having Laura’s advice has made a huge difference in how I approach problems. I always come away from our discussions feeling uplifted and well-equipped to handle any challenges that come my way.

It’s comforting to know she is on my side!”

Why I Became a Coach

My path to executive coaching

As a practicing lawyer and business advisor, I built a successful career and have worked with individuals and companies all over the world.

I loved getting to know the people around me — clients and colleagues — and hearing what challenged and excited them. Having conversations about what mattered most to them, and encouraging them was incredibly rewarding to me.

When I decided to make a change in my professional life, I took the opportunity to work with my own coach, and dig more deeply into what I wanted to do next.

What emerged was my enthusiasm for mentoring, coaching, and cheerleading for the people around me.

I’ve heard many of the questions you’re asking, and some of them are ones I’ve asked of others in my own career.

For example:

“How did you become a partner? Can you help me think through my path to partnership?”

“I’m really frustrated in dealing with the leadership of my department. How do I make them understand what I need to do my job?”

“What if this isn’t the right professional path for me? Is it too late (or too early) to make a change?”

These questions led to the kinds of conversations that helped me advance my own career and to help others as well. And, yes, I’ve overcome challenges too with the assistance of coaches who engaged with me and supported me along the way.

Inspired by that experience, I decided to become an executive coach in order to help others make powerful and positive changes in their professional lives.

The best part of coaching is seeing my clients succeed — raising their game, taking risks that are worth it, getting that promotion, finding the job that they love, and making tough decisions that are the right ones for them — and having the privilege of working with them.

With the right kind of support, you can reach your full potential and achieve your professional goals. I’m excited to meet you and support you on your journey.

Qualifications

My experience and background

Prior to launching my coaching practice, I was a Special Assistant to the President at the White House, a senior level appointee at the US Department of Justice, an equity partner in two large global law firms, and in-house counsel at a major global consulting and business advisory firm. I’ve led and managed teams of hundreds of people across multiple countries, been a top advisor for many Fortune 500 and FTSE 100 companies, directed the restructuring and transformation of large departments and business units, and made critical compensation and promotion decisions.

My legal practice has included trial and appellate litigation, white collar criminal defense, financial regulatory enforcement, immigration, consumer law issues, and homeland and national security matters. I’ve also worked with clients to help them manage their business operations, navigate government regulations, launch and sustain new companies and business lines, address compliance issues, and develop communications strategies.

Working as a business and legal partner, I have been privileged to serve as counsel and a trusted business advisor for clients across the United States and globally. My clients represented a variety of industries, such as financial services, pharmaceutical, health care, technology, non-profit, oil & gas, and education.

I’ve worked extensively and in-person in many international markets and financial centers, including New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Silicon Valley, Canada, London, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Singapore, and China.

Today, in addition to catching, I am also an active private investor, focusing on investments in women-owned and women-founded businesses. I’m also the general counsel for Connect Our Kids, a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the lives and support for children and youth in the child welfare and foster care space.

I am a graduate of the College of William and Mary (B.A.) and the University of Virginia (J.D., M.A.).

I am also an accredited Associate Certified Coach (ACC) with the International Coaching Federation (ICF), and work in my coaching practice according to the values, principles and ethical standards of the ICF Code of Ethics.

Fun Facts

Outside the office...

I have a magnet on my computer that reads “Book Junkie” and it’s true — I have a hard time passing up bookstores, and I buy more books than I will ever have time to read (but can’t bear to part with any of them). Recent favorites include “The Daughters of Yalta” and “Sunny Days: The Children’s Television Revolution.”

My husband and I are both from the East Coast of the US, and after many years commuting on planes, trains and automobiles while we worked in different cities, we now live in Atlanta, Georgia.

He enjoys cooking, mostly French, and, fortunately, to match that, I like cleaning up.

I love to travel, and business and personal trips have taken me all over the world — some of my favorite experiences have been hiking the Milford Trail in New Zealand, walking the Scottish Highlands, relaxing in the Mendoza foothills of Argentina, and enjoying the amazing culinary scene in Israel.
